Several ACSOL leaders will educate judges, district attorneys, public defenders, law enforcement and mental health professionals this week at the annual conference of the Forensic Mental Health Professionals. The conference will be held on April 13 through April 15 in San Diego.
ACSOL leaders participating in the conference include Vice President Catherine Carpenter who will make a presentation regarding registrants and the challenges they face. In addition, ACSOL board members Jay Rice and Alex Gittinger will make a formal poster presentation regarding the impact of current laws and regulations upon both registrants and their families.
“This is a tremendous opportunity to educate decision makers regarding the challenges facing registrants as well as their low re-offense rates,” stated ACSOL Executive Director Janice Bellucci who will help staff the ACSOL exhibit booth at the conference.
Joining ACSOL at the conference will be several members of the Family Safety Foundation (FSF) board of directors, including President Cliff Maas as well as counselors JoEllen Wiggington and Ellen Yates. FSF board member Kathleen Garner will join Bellucci at the exhibit booth. All board members and officers are participating on a volunteer basis and therefore will not be paid for their participation during the conference. ACSOL is a sponsor of the conference due to a private donation.

Time to brush up on those public speaking skills. First the molasses, then the sulfur. Perhaps Mr. Logan would be of use.
The timing is great. Mrs Jackson on the Supreme Court and the issues of registrants were brought up. You cannot teach people because people are crazy, but you can teach individuals. This conference are for individuals in the legal system wanting to learn more of Justice Jackson’s stance. ACSOL can dispel the lie that all registrants have “frightening and high” recidivism rates, perpetuated by the 2003 Smith v Doe SCOTUS decision.
