JOLIET, IL — Joliet city officials on Tuesday announced that they will attempt to eliminate housing for sex offenders in an attempt to minimize the presence of those convicted of sex crimes.
…
“It is absurd that anyone at any level of government would think (sex offender housing) is a good idea,” O’Dekirk said in a statement issued on Tuesday. “The City’s Legal Department has been instructed to take all appropriate action to shut this down. I believe placing five sex offenders at one location in any city poses an imminent threat to the people inside that neighborhood.”
ACTION ALERT FOR ILLINOIS (especially Joliet) registrants and supporters: start writing and calling legislators to support housing for registrants!
Who else will counterbalance this hysteria?
“I believe placing five sex offenders at one location in any city poses an imminent threat to the people inside that neighborhood.”
They just love to make up crap. Well what he believes is completely incorrect
People start having a coniption when a mere five…*five* registrants are in one place at a time…are they really not aware of how *massive* the list is by now? Just more of that “not in my neighborhood” type of mob mentality…the masses of Joliet don’t really care where these individuals go, or what happens to them, so long as they are “out of sight, out of mind”. The sad part of it is, sooner or later, the mob almost always gets what it wants. Still, no reason not to make some noise. As Roger H said… call and write, and maybe this time, rationality and humanity will overcome the mindless hysteria…
Has there been a problem with any of the residents of the apartment building?? So Mr. Mayor is going to “solve” what’s not a problem? 🙄 😒
See pic. I believe this may actually be the world’s most nondescript apartment building.
🙄 Joliet Mayor Demands Answers Over Building That Houses Multiple Sex Offenders – NBC Chicago:
Shouldn’t they be more worried about someone who doesn’t have a home?
1. The article is an exclusive for Patch inc. 2. We’ve seen Patch media at work for some time on the sex offender issue. 3. NewDay is housing offenders for profit, meaning through the use of subsidies provided by taxation. Joliet IL has long been a prison town and therefore benefit from the tax revenue generated from the economic activity surrounding the infrastructure.
Shoudn’t they be more worried about the more than 90-95% of people not on a registry living in their house, next door and in their neighborhood?
These people live in fear. When people live in fear, they lose all rational thinking. Must suck to live one’s life in fear.
And as David stated, have these people caused any problems? If they had, they would have been arrested.
So I am not understanding the problem.
Let’s see, placing them all in one spot is an imminent threat, and having them disperses within the community is a threat, too. Just where do you suggest having “those people” live, a-hole?
This reminds me of the case a few years ago, not too far from Joliet in Aurora, Illinois, involving Wayside Ministries.
In that case, about 20 registrants were sent packing because the city said the place they were living was too close to a playground…yadda, yadda, yadda. I wouldn’t be surprised if at some point Joliet city leaders decide that area really needs a place for the neighborhood kiddos to play and the dangerous sex offenders will have to move because state law mandates it.
oh no five to six offenders in a group oh no…… officials = bully’s
5 ? sounds like a real dumping ground ,wow ! as apposed to the folks that are already there? sounds like the place just got an upgrade , you can bet the 5 are not nosy , and great neighbors , place looks plain and clean
