TX: Texas city passes residency restriction to banish registrants

HEREFORD, Texas (KVII) — The Hereford City Commission has enacted a new ordinance that restricts where registered sex offenders can reside, prohibiting them from living within 2,000 feet of schools, parks, pools, arcades, movie theatres, and other areas where children gather.

The ordinance, passed on Monday, imposes a fine of up to $500 per day for violations.

Chief Landon Swan of the Hereford Police Department explained the rationale behind the ordinance, stating, “What we’ve found is if we utilize all these different locations with the 2,000-foot radius, it actually lets us cover almost the entire town.”

Wow, they aren’t even hiding it anymore. All-out banishment in a concentrated effort to remove one specific group from every corner of civilization entirely.

What I find interesting is that so many of the very people they allege they’re trying to “protect” are, in fact, completely against these idiotic and destructive residency restrictions (as well as the registry itself).

Former victims of such crimes, when anyone bothers to actually listen to them, are saying that they don’t want retribution or endless, life-obliterating punishment, especially since they often know and are close to the the person who committed the offense. They want support, restoration, and resolution.

Harsher laws and more restrictions have nothing to do with “protecting” anyone. It’s all only ever been about posturing and grandstanding for the sake of self-interest, self-aggrandizement, and the expansion of power and control.

Sounds like unconstitutional banishment to me, although years ago the 5th circuit approved a TX city banishnig 97% of the city. But when has the 5th ever been concerned about the constitution…

All residency restrictions when applied with a blanket prohibition of living within xx feet of this, that, or the other are banishment. Once you start looking at maps, even with shorter distance restrictions, there are very few pockets of non-restricted housing. Then take out expensive housing. Then take out anything that is not on the market and available for sale or rent, and you have next to nothing left. Just because there’s an open pocket somewhere to live, it does not mean you can live there. It’s all banishment, they know it, and that’s what many people support.

That is called gaming the system there chief.

As I noted on the FL city restriction post, the IL article on restrictions posted here on ACSOL yesterday should be sent to this cow poke town (SW of Amarillo) council and LE offices so they understand the impact they are doing and the selfish desires of political cred they are actually doing with actions such as this.

ACSOL needs to make another thread dedicated to just Texas and Florida. Can call it, “ News from the alternative universe”, or maybe “ Hicks on parade”.

It’s like a Costco membership.

ACSOL should share the California decision of Re:Taylor with Texas.

This how California was before they realized these 2000 feet restrictions only made things worse for everyone in the community not just registrants, there so far behind.

Really?

So Sinister total Banishment. Bible belt my ass

What are the going to do if you don’t pay? Take you to collections, ding your credit report .

This is outrageous

This kind of stupidity is why I don’t care when cops get shot. It’s just karma.

Amerika is a stupid, hateful country full of stupid, hateful people. Do more than 50% of the people here want to burn it to the ground and let China own it? Maybe.

People in Amerika have no one to blame for the hate and destruction here except for themselves. Amerika has never been a free country and it hasn’t been “great” for a very long time. That won’t be changing any time soon.

No amount of restrictions will prevent or solve sex crimes, however feelings get in their way of facts which causes their tiny minds to crumble as well as their bloated egos.

” The stars are bright, lawmakers’ brains are deep in hatred deep in the heart of Tex Azz.”
