Why the actual re-offense rates are important pertaining to the total number of people who are already on the registry compared with the percentage of those who are then later reconvicted of a new sexually related crime. This is a simple one, the fact is that the registry and community notification laws are based on the premise that people who have been convicted of any type of sexually related crime are going to commit more. In fact, most states have within their statutes their reasoning for the laws existence and that is this high possibility for re-offense. So if it doesn’t exist than their rationale and justification for the laws evaporates and the government’s purpose for the law becomes arbitrary and capricious based on nothing more than a desire to restrict the liberties of a given group of people based on fear and bigotry. Goebbels theory of a lie repeated often enough, people believe anything and E.L Bernays, the bigger the lie, the easier people believe it, has people believing the drivel on Law & Order SVU or the snarling host of America’s Most Wanted, like that of the (false) high recidivism rate of ex-offenders. Since John Walsh at age 23 hooked up with a 16 year old, that would mean he is still doing it. For some reason, Florida carved out a loophole to allow 23 year olds to get with 16 year olds. So nothing illegal here, lets talk about the other sickos and dirtbags, John.
Language is important. We need to use the term “rate of re-offense” instead of “recidivism”. Why? Because recidivism includes all offenses, including minor parole violations, for which a registered citizen has been charged and re-offense is limited to sex offenses.
Janice, thank you for correcting me. Now, I notice I have made this error in several postings. It’s a little embarassing, since I invoked the name of E.L Bernays in that posting, who surely appreciated precision and correctness in his wording. It makes my comments about guys like John Walsh who want to stick explosives in the asses of registrants and then explode them, seem like blatherings of an idiot, in my zest to counter their glaringly offensive and threatening vigilante-minded propaganda. Once again, thank you for this since I know the only way to counter lying propaganda is with truth and correctness.
