Jessica’s Law, the ballot measure to harness sex offenders, began eight years ago with a promise – one that parents whose daughters have disappeared, as well as law enforcement experts, now say lulled California into a false sense of security. Full Article

Well, as this editorial correctly indicates, the passage of Jessica’s laws was based on a series of very dubious premises and propaganda style claims. I am simply shocked, shocked that these premises and claims are now being revealed for what they have been all along: false and politically motivated statements made to gull people into voting for a bad law that fails to accomplish anything worthwhile. The whole thing ought to be tossed out, I see no value in it.
Jessica’s Law promised more than it could deliver?!?!!???
Gee; imagine that. Perhaps some empirical studies and pilot test run could have shown what a wast of time and effort, as well as $ Jessica’s Law was before it was ever made into law. What a shame num nuts Steve Ipsen didnt use his brain properly at the time this was being proposed. It’s a sad thing we are cursed with men and women of his stripe.
Let’s get rid of it. It was flawed from the start and they used blatantly exaggerated numbers to influence voters.
Everybody is lured into a false sense of security with everything dealing with SO laws. The registry is useless and gets bigger by the minute, leaving it in a complete mess for anyone to oversee it. Jessica’s law is and has been absurd all along and only created homelessness, something nobody deems to be an effective way to monitor. Hopefully, things will be moving into the right direction soon, and people will finally see the majority of SOs are just labeled as such, because some people decide what should be considered a sex crime.
Well if the supreme court rules that jessicas law applies to all rso then it will mean tens of thousands of people will have to move. That’s a lot of people that will be affected. On the positive side if that does happen I really think the courts and the state are going to have their hands full with the number of challenges to their rso laws as a whole. After all now people will have to fight back in order to save their homes and property instead of sitting on the sidelines because the laws haven’t affected them severly enough yet for them to get into the fight.
