Already an established independent filmmaker with five film credits under his belt, Matt Duhamel has now set his sights on a weekly video podcast about America’s broken criminal justice system. ‘Solitary Nation’, which is available in both video and audio format on Google Play Music and Stichter, is an interview style show on important subjects such as sex offenders in the community, mass incarceration, collateral effects on family members, children of incarcerated parents and post prison success stories. Duhamel states that the main reason he decided to produce and host Solitary Nation is to help individuals and families that have been affected by incarceration in some form. He agrees that his own experience in federal prison for a computer sex offense was a catalyst in helping promote compassion and second chances for former inmates while crushing fear-based social stigmas, especially for registered sex offenders. Well I am glad to see that some of us are doing or trying to do things to change the perception that people cant overcome past events. I know its hard to do, fear is difficult to overcome for everyone. Its especially hard when the lawmakers and lawpassers pass unconstitutional laws, no one wll hire you, etc.
I would like to see this guy come to NY where the state Ct. of appeals has eliminated residency restrictions for so’s. Even so, residency restrictions exist throughout the state. In my city there is virtually no apartment complex where an SO can live. They wont even accept an application. Moreover, even with the state court eliminating residency restrictions using the state law preemption ruling, federal authority trumps it in any residence receiving federal funding. Just more examples of a broken system. In NYS you can legally discriminate based solely on fear. But any other type of criminal offender can live anywhere they want. Even when federal and state law prohibit discrimination unless an iminent or well established threat exists.
I woud be hapopy to offer free housing and food to this guy if he would like to do a show on NYS.
This just might be a start to re-educating the public via visual media that may wary away the fear mongers!
Hope Mr. Duhamel will be in IMDB soon, congrats to him!
Thanks to the poster and good to see a RC moving forward and working.
Thanks for posting this information on my video podcast. I do have more interviews coming soon about sex offender laws and issues including one with Jill Levenson, PhD. A few years back she researched on the Halloween panic titled, “How Safe Are Trick-or-Treaters?: An Analysis of Child Sex Crime Rates on Halloween”
I do have an IMDb page at: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm6055103
It does include Solitary Nation.
Hopefully all this work can open eyes about this crisis.
