CA: “A Stranger Looking to Kidnap and Sex Traffic a Child Is Highly Unlikely” – Roseville, California Police

Looks like the Roseville, California, police department got a little fed up with social media posts going on about local “sex trafficking kidnappers” and “suspicious people.” And so it came out with this amazing document on its Facebook page: True facts about the fears its citizens feel and perpetuate.

Kudos to a department that seems determined to do its job. If called, it will investigate. If not called, it will not conjecture about non crimes. And in the meantime, it will do what it can to counter a culture determined to freak out over fake danger.

This week an account about a man acting suspiciously in a grocery store parking lot in Roseville has been widely shared…

What I find interesting is that people are actually posting angry grams stating how dare the police pretend that such things aren’t happening and that they’re causing people to let their guard down against “potential” kidnappers…. -_-

In L.A., we frequently see Amber Alerts….and, invariably, the perpetrator is a non-custodial parent. (Except for the recent one which was simply a false police report and a hoax by a woman hoping to get her borrowed car back!)

We had one up here in the Bay Area. Supposedly some teenaged kid was taken hostage at a liquor store robbery. Amber Alert went out giving a full description of the teen and his name including some video footage from the store’s surveillance. Come to find out he was in fact the one holding up the liquor store and it was his buddy that grabbed him on the way out. Not only did they cancel the Amber Alert, they removed his name and blurred out his face on the video because now he was a juvenile charged with a crime. Total joke and waste of resources.
