AUS: Pedophile stopped at Sydney Airport by anti-sex tourism law

A convicted child molester was prevented from flying overseas from Sydney Airport on Wednesday under new laws aimed at keeping Australian pedophiles from traveling to Southeast Asia for sex tourism.

Laws that took effect on Wednesday prevent 20,000 convicted pedophiles listed on the Australian child sex offender register from leaving the country except for specific purposes approved by law enforcement agencies. Full Article

What is a “convicted pedophile”? Are there really 20,000 of them listed on the registry? And “around 2,500 new convicted pedophiles would be added..each year”.
Quite tired of that word being incorrectly used by the average person. Based on how often people and the media use it, everyone should get a PhD, because apparently they are experts.

I try to point that out to people, be not having any success. The language of the sex panic is set in people’s minds now. They lump all sex crimes together and don’t distinguish between a mental condition and a crime. It is what happened in the drug scare of the 80’s and 90’s when it didn’t matter if you where an addict, a dealer, took lots of drugs or had one joint in your pocket, you became part of large conspiracy to destroy decent society and corrupt children. Now people are starting to regret the war on drugs, but go ahead and revise the propaganda recycled for the war on sex.

Their use of the term perfectly corresponds with their complete lack of understanding of it or the larger issues surrounding it. In this respect, I am happy for them to go on misusing it as it demonstrates their ignorance to others less so. In other words, I wouldn’t want to assume the role of their p.r. agent to help them obfuscate their stupidity; it is better that it be on full-show for all to see.

The reach of Rep Chris Smith has gone a touch further south than just Thailand now because his influence seems to be reaching Downunder. No one knows what the business this person was on, and they did not say what the destination was, but you are not allowed to pass GO, collect $200 or stay in the Park Ave Hotel with your little metal car either without telling us first!! Nyet!!

A bad reflection on another of the Five Eye countries.

    • David Kennerly, "In the long list of all of your problems, I'm the least of them"

Oh, they’ve been reflecting badly for a long time, now. They didn’t need Chris Smith to be hysterical. They’re fully capable of it on their own. It’s more of a function of being native English speakers, I’m afraid. You can count on all of them to be totally onboard the sex-hysteria wagon.

  3. totally against public registry

“Australian pedophiles are notorious for taking inexpensive vacations to nearby Southeast Asian and Pacific island countries to abuse children.”
OMG, a country crazier than ours! Do they have proof for this statement? Lose your passport! For life?!
“Child welfare advocates”- is that the same as modern-day witch hunters?

  4. kind of living

stupid uninformed article , if people are not being watched when they are there , how do they really know what they are doing ? from what I understand is that there are many things to see , and the food is great , and as far as the party seen go’s there are many women that are of legal age to date . I have never been there , but would love to see it , but the way things look who would want to go there if everyone thinks that all people do is go down there to hook up with a child ? I have met many ladys from there and they were not just nice but very interesting well over 21 . once we end up on this registry everyone acts like thats all we think about is SEX , when I found my wife I was just looking for friends , and she was and is just that a best friend , but we were just friends for a long time , she loved motorcycles , and I rode a lot , so we had a ball ! but sex was not part of it for about 2 years , we enjoyed just hanging out , and helping each other with hard ships that was going on in our lives at that time , who new that this stupid registry would still be hanging over us this many years on down the road ? the only thing that strains our relationship is this registry ! !! we cant really go anywhere any more , it use to be that camping for two weeks was just a tease , set up camp , and take off riding , now we have to turn in to pumpkins in five days , and that is bull crap , when I first went on the registry it was to LE only and the registry was not so much in the way , now its in every aspect of our lives ! people spreading roomers no matter where we go , I have known my land lord for years and the land lord had know idea of my past , then one day some witch hunter came in here and gave him a flyer with my mug on it , so much for CA land lords not looking into your criminal past , the witch hunters will just hand it out , I seen the people that did it too , drug dealers talking like they would not want them living next to me , ass mites were lucky because it took me a min to figure out what they were doing , now next door they do the same thing , just when things started smoothing out and people gave me a chance , “respect was nice” then the guy moved back in next door and it all started over again , with not just his wife running her flapper , but his punk asssss as well , really I am sick of this , sorry about AU and all , but its years over do , its time to bring this registry down , like I said I could deal with to LE only , at least then my family is in no danger that way because of foolish witch hunters , any way its 3:15 AM and I need to rest at some point , have a great X Mas and a happy new year !

The thing with this for me, Australia’s registry isnt public. And if the crime isn’t a Megan Kanka kinda case they can get off the registry in a few years time according to their website.

I did notice when I had gone to Thailand and Indonesia that the majority of Australian men I had seen were in their older years and riding around with what looked like little kids who were dressed like prostitutes. I’m about 90% sure they were not their adopted kids or even related by the way they were “together” in public.

The thing is these guys most likely weren’t on their registry but retired or semiwealthy people living there on a visa. Prior to IML I had actually planned on moving to Thailand and working at a kickboxing camp. When I contacted the embassy the only requirement criminal record wise was that I hadn’t commited a crime there as they believed if you had served the sentence for the crime you had paid for it enough.

  6. T

I don’t believe it one bit when it’s being said that “pedophiles are traveling wherever to sexually abuse children” it’s nothing but a logical fallacy just to scare people and to trip off foreign government agencies to get them to take action for no real reason other than to give maniacs like Chris Smith the satisfaction about how the IML is working real well, something is not right about this, because no one on the registry would be crazy and stupid enough to travel overseas to committ an act against children because they’re on the registry and they’re being watched and scrutinized and they know well that if they travel for the purpose of any criminal activity they’re gonna caught.

“… no one on the registry would be crazy and stupid enough to travel overseas to committ an act against children because they’re on the registry and they’re being watched and scrutinized and they know well that if they travel for the purpose of any criminal activity they’re gonna caught.”

So I wonder, is your reasoning above a good argument for keeping us all on the registry forever, at least those of us who had a child victim? Is the registry the reason why we aren’t traveling overseas to commit new sex acts against children? Do you think it has that much of a deterrent effect, or is the main deterrent? Because if so, then you make the government’s argument (or one them, anyway) for them.

For my part, I do not believe it is the registry that deters most of us from committing new offenses, whether domestic or international. I also don’t think it has anything to do with presence or residence restrictions, nor reporting requirements, nor any other duty imposed on us by regulation.

I think it’s because most of us, when confronted with what we’d done, acknowledged in our hearts that it was wrong. We want to avoid hurting anyone else, and we have decided not to repeat our harmful behavior.

If that’s not true, then the state really does have a valid argument for keeping us registered, even if they are enjoined by the courts from applying requirements that are deemed punishment.

  7. BigMac

Oh Boy! You guys are in denial! The Registration Process is much simpler in Australia. Yet, you all state he is an innocent bystander. What pedophile would go to a 3rd World Country and commit another crime? Heavens no! Who on earth would commit a crime against a child anyways? Hmmmm. Your all innocent!!!

    • Trish

Big Mac……you are on the wrong site ! The ex offenders hear are trying make their points by over expression because of there suppression in society…. hellllloooo wake up! to bring balance to a way the fuuuuuc out of control system and probably due to wac ooooos like yourself I might add……so please if your not interested in helping restore these men’s lives just go away ! While people such as yourself want to see men in prison ! I will gladly help free my fellow men and bring real justice to an over zealous and out right humananitarian crisis, in case you did not catch these real legitimate statistics…..Moooooosssst sex offenders 90s % are not real pedophiles! Hellllllllooooooo! Are these truths, really being grasped!

      • Trish

        This is for cr……
Ex offenders are mainly first time offenders…and they are normal healthy people that have to grow stronger in healthy relationships (immature) and some must face the cards life dealt to them in a better way! They now have life experience the hard way, not everyone is born or given the same, blessings, opportunities talents , love, support, help, sex, money, power and many more things that enhance life and success. They must strive much much harder than other people to overcome the corrupt unjust legal system, so a combination of things are taking place mentally and emotionally that enhances there caution and moral compass which stays in overdrive to not get out of step with accepted norms in society, the strife does not = success it is deep rooted in this alone …..they are not inherently evil, abnormal or incurable……only finding there way by tweeking moral life skills in a twisted, perverted world which allows bill Clinton to not register although he had oral sex in the White House….or young girls 14/15/16/17 who knowingly engage in sex have babies, but do not did not or will not see jail ! Or perhaps adulterers, fornicators…and all sorts of sexual escapades that are not enforced in our self righteous culture that ignores strip clubs, prostitution, pornography, with Howard stern, Hugh Hefner and many more that were “ALLOWED” to do what they wanted, we see nude beaches and condone girls/women/ladies etc……exploring and enjoying the love and attention of their beauty and sexual expression……, but if your a guy and you are seen with an erection you are a vulgar beast ….! …So again ! My point is this ! Most men and women 90% / more are not true life time deviant hummmmmannnnns! Question to contemplate……..? …Do we as a nation see the public as 90% or more as stable people who can run their lives without government oversight….I.e. parole, probation, courts, treatment, in depth psychological counciling etc. etc…. Or are we the control freak typo that believes man must be governed by any means nessesary to rule with an iron hand! Ensuring safety in the name of loss of freedoms and liberties ! YOU DECIDE.
