TX: Texas’ anti-gay sex-ed laws hurt kids

[dailytexanonline.com]

Texas Health and Safety Code Section 163.002 lays out the guidelines regarding the instructional elements related to sexual education and STDs in public schools within the state. Hidden under points regarding an emphasis on abstinence-based sex ed is a restriction profoundly damaging to LGBTQ kids throughout the state of Texas.

Specifically, this law states that sex ed instruction should include an emphasis “ … that homosexuality is not a lifestyle acceptable to the general public and that homosexual conduct is a criminal offense.”

    Lock a child in a room for misbehaving and you’re an abuser.

    Send a kid to jail for being who they are based on these BS laws and you’re an awesome politician with high moral values.

    I guarantee that this Statute was pushed and passed by GOP lawmakers. I equally guarantee that the Texas GOP will be drowned by a blue wave as the increasing demographics of latinos and other immigrant communities remember who has consistently targeted them with vile rhetoric and hatred.

      @David

      Your anger and hate towards republicans is rightly deserved.

      Be careful what you wish for with a blue wave. Democrats record towards RC is hardly different (see CA and NY as two examples).

      No party is friendly towards RC – nearly every political machine will capitalize on people’s fear.

      That said, there are those willing to help and fight for individuals and groups who suffer from the fear of the public at large.

      Rather then rage against groups who believe to be vile I would suggest spend the energy to find people wether democrat republican or independent who are willing to work with towards a goal you find worthy of your time and energy.

        In this case, and regarding the anti-gay (as opposed to the anti-sex offender) movement the other David is absolutely correct. This was, undoubtedly, an almost exclusively Republican effort. The anti-sex offender movement is much more broad-based, however. Nevertheless, the Republicans are somewhat worse in this regard and becoming increasingly worse relative to Democrats. The Democrats have begun to shift modestly in their attitudes towards us while the Republicans will hold fast to their prejudices much longer. Mostly this is down to religion. That’s just the way it is.

        Rest assured, I take action on my political goals with as much fervor as I speak of them. 😉

        Guys, the moderators just posted a new policy about not discussing Republican versus Democrat, with which I agree. ALL politicians have benefited beating up on us. We don’t need division between ourselves by being partisan. Divided we fall. United we can do the impossible.

    Another reason here why the LGBTQ community should consider a coalition of groups (including registered citizens) to combat hatred and intolerance. As much progress as we’ve made on civil rights, we all still have a hard fight ahead. We have to do so together!
