Text should have only been sent to certain DeLand residents
Parker Lee Sharpley (Volusia County Sheriff’s Office)
VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – Many Volusia County residents received a text alert Tuesday afternoon telling them that a sex offender had moved in nearby but for most of them, that wasn’t actually the case.
The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office said the message about Parker Lee _____, 37, should have only been sent to those who live within 1,000 feet of his new address, which is 1450 2nd Ave. in DeLand.
Those who received the alert in error got a follow-up message clarifying the information. The sheriff’s office also posted the correction on its Facebook and Twitter pages.
I don’t know how to feel about how they went about how they went about correcting themselves. First it’s already hard on the registrant that his information is published and in addition sent everyone in a certain distance. The sheriff screwed up and basically sent it to everyone, which is unfortunate, while they are owning the mistake they made, at the same time they are drawing more attention to the registrant unfortunately by posting a correction. If I was in his position I probably would just want to leave it at that after the first initial mistake.
could you imagine if the neighbors tried to oust their neighbor who the police wrongly labeled a registrant?
Well boys at lese we know this got darn thang works …last one to the chattahoochee hotel is a rotten egg
