Please post comments here regarding the path you or your loved one took that you hope is leading to, or has already led to, freedom from the registry. Comments could include information regarding the petitioning process in California or any other process in any other state. Sharing this information with others could help them achieve freedom, too.

For anyone who has been removed from the CA registry, you can expedite your removal from the CA Megan’s Law website as well as receipt of a letter from the CA Dept. of Justice confirming your removal by sending a copy of the court’s order to the CA Dept. of Justice using the following email: [email protected]. Be specific in your request, that is, tell the agency you want to be removed from the website and/or you want a letter from the agency confirming that you are no longer required to register.
For those who have been removed from their state registry, it is recommended that you notify the federal Dept. of Homeland Security (DHS) that you are no longer required to register in that state. Send an email to [email protected]. According to communications from DHS, a person who is no longer required to register in any state is no longer required to have a “unique identifier” added to their passport and is no longer required to provide notice of at least 21 days for overseas travel.
Copied from the general forum to get more eyes:
I am now eligible to petition for registration relief after 20 years. My case was in So-Cal, Pomona Superior Court. I’m hearing that it’s a tough court to get relief granted, as the DA is actively arguing against any and all petitions. Anyone have any experience with that district? How best can I go about this to finally regain some semblance of normalcy back?
There is good news to report. Sacramento Superior Court has granted the petition of a person required to register who was assigned to Tier 1. The DA did not object and there was no hearing. Congratulations to #153!
Has anyone who has got relief from the registry been able to get on a royal Caribbean cruise ship.?
Another person required to register has escaped his bondage. That is because Santa Clarita Superior Court granted his petition. He was previously assigned to Tier 1 and there was no hearing. Congratulations to #154!
Los Angeles Superior Court has granted another petition for a person previously required to register. Thank you, L A Superior Court! The individual was assigned to Tier 2 and had registered for at least 20 years. The DA did not object to his petition and no hearing was held. Congratulations to #155!
I am currently on parole after being released from prison on October 4th of 2026. I have a misdemeanor for a prison arrest (or an in house case) of a 314.1 that took place in 2018 while I was serving time for a 245 violent offense. I was released then violated parole and locked back up in 2021 on another violent case 245 however am still required to register as a 290 even though the 314.1 was a prison arrest and a misdemeanor. Both of my paroling infractions where violent and felonies, my 290 registration is not a lifetime requirement but I consider it to be excessive sense it has nothing to do with my current case and was from another term.
