Nebraska schoolteacher Cody_____, 26, and an 18-year-old female allegedly entered an intimate relationship two months after she graduated from high school
Pester is now charged with sexual abuse by a school official

If found guilty at trial, Cody could be sentenced to up to 20 years in prison on that charge
In the Spring of 2025, a sixth-grade teacher in Nebraska met a student in his capacity as the high school wrestling coach.

Cody, 26, and the young woman began exchanging texts on May 10, which is the same day she graduated from high school in Palmyra, according to a probable cause affidavit obtained by PEOPLE.

On July 18, 2025, the two decided to enter into an intimate relationship, according to statements made by both Cody and the unnamed female, then 18, contained in the affidavit.

The affidavit states that on Dec. 29, 2025, “Lancaster County investigators were made aware of an allegation of sexual abuse by a school worker.”

There is no mention of who tipped off authorities, but a little less than a month after that tip came in, they spoke to the alleged victim in the case.

On Jan. 23, she told investigators that she and Cody “agreed to be in an intimate relationship”  two months after she graduated from school.

The affidavit also says that she informed investigators with…

I gotta put this out here because it is crazy to think the NEB school district still gets to claim the graduated student 90 days after graduation even though the student is an ADULT at the time of graduation and was consensually involved with the other party despite the fact they’re a school district employee. There was no grooming or anything inappropriate during the time the graduated student was a student.

There is overreach here IMO by the state and the school district. I hope there is innocence found here and a lawsuit to change the law on this afterwards. A graduate is a graduate and done with the school system as soon as the graduation has happened. You don’t get to keep the student on the books until the next school year after they’ve graduated.

This is the inevitable result of a moral panic–they took it so far that even Yahoo commenters, who aren’t exactly social libertines, are uniformly disgusted by the prosecution. If this case could get some traction it could be an inflection point, where the public finally looks at itself in the mirror and asks, “What are we doing here?”

Good ole Lancaster County, home of the P*nis of the Plains aka the Nebraska capital building. Nothing surprises me anymore coming out of Lincoln. Heck a woman was arrested, convicted, and sentenced to prison for having a miscarrying. Sometimes the state needs to but out and mind it’s own business.

You have to read more of the comments beyond “What is the prosecutor doing?” but to the atty that is chiming in on the matter. They feel the prosecutor had no choice (bullsh*t) because they both admitted to the relationship. A conviction may be had but upon appeal (if appealed), they feel it will be reversed since it would be found unconstitutional because the rights of the two were violated between two consenting and graduated adults. Here is one where I hope the ACLU or someone similar will watch this case to rep him if it comes to it. Heck, @Janice should be allowed to rep this gent in appealing it if it needs to be!

What state writes a law like this & why?

I’d like the citizenry to reflect on the laws the legislature is passing and ask a lot more questions, but I am not sure I would hold out hope for that. Most don’t care until impacted.

This is f***ing ridiculous!!!! They were both ADULTS!!!!!
Okay, maybe he should be fired at the worst. But 20 years in prison and they were BOTH ADULTS!!!!! What the actual f***????????

Nebraska where the west begins, Nebraska where your troubles end, Nebraska where you need a friend, Nebraska put your pearl clutching down. Nebraska the Good Life my foot.

He taught 6th grade and unless the 18 yr old girl just graduated 6th grade he wasn’t her teacher. Sounds like they met through him being a wrestling coach at the high school, started texting each other on graduation day, and decided to have sex two months later. The DA looks like an old prune. No offense if you are old or prunish.

This is UNCALLED FOR! A former pastor of mine got married at 33 to a girl who had turned 18 — and he was her youth pastor when she was growing up, no less! No, he was never arrested for it, and they’re both still married today, 37 years later, and he’s still a pastor, too!

I actually know two people whose parents have similar stories, where one was a teacher and the other was a student. Both stories are kind of similar but I’ll give one of them.

My friends father the teacher, in his mid-20s, asked his student about six months after she graduated high school on a date. Think small town where everyone knows everyone so he sees her around in public a lot. She had just turned 19 at the time, and they didn’t start a relationship until after she had already left school. They ended up getting married a couple of years later and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary just two years ago.
