FL: Call To Action: Miami-Dade to Consider Bovo Amendment Tomorrow

[floridaactioncommittee.org]

Tomorrow, at the regular meeting of county commissioners, the “Bovo Amendment” will be considered. The Amendment seeks to remove a safeguard contained in the overnight camping ordinance that would require homeless who are sleeping overnight on public property, be afforded the opportunity to go to a homeless shelter before being arrested.

In other words, Miami-Dade wants the ability to arrest homeless sex offenders on sight. More specifically, since the Miami-Dade County Homeless Trust Chair could not find a solution to the transient sex offender problem in 10 years, his solution is to put them back in jail!

The result will be that registrants who are living by the tracks at NW 71st and 36th court because they HAVE to be there (they are on GPS or were sent there by probation) will be given a choice of leaving (and getting arrested for violating the residency restriction or absconding) or staying (and getting arrested for violating the overnight camping ordinance).

FINALLY.

I hope this passes, because this will become a undisputable civil rights issue and lawyers will start finally helping registrants of Miami Dade county.

This is the final test to see if there is any sanity left in Florida: If this passes and registrants are arrested because they are denied from utilizing shelters and lawyers don’t line up for these black and white civil rights lawsuits, then there is ABSOLUTELY no hope at all in Floriduh.

Can’t wait to see what happens!

Let’s see… homeless RC’s will be “afforded the opportunity” to go to a homeless shelter that won’t accept them and if they don’t/can’t, they will arrested. Crazy!

In summary, Florida will legislate you into being homeless, then make being homeless illegal. And all because a LOBBYIST’s bloodlust for revenge against his daughter’s abuser wasn’t satisfied with her conviction and turned to a segment of society he expanded exponentially and no legislator is willing to oppose him or his forementioned daughter, now a state senator.

Wish Ron Book was half as interested in fixing social security as he is in anti-SO laws.

No surprise there.

But, the Federal lawsuit pending can trump this petty ridiculous ordinance of theirs.
