Supreme Court Vigil 2026 Held in Washington, D.C.

Registrants and family members conducted a vigil today in Washington, D.C., near the U.S. Supreme Court.  The participants held printed signs with messages such as “Smith v. Doe Must Go” and “Registration is Punishment.” The sole speaker at the event was civil rights attorney Janice Bellucci.  In her speech, she stated that the Court made a “terrible mistake” in 2003 when they issued the Smith v. There are at least two famous quotations about roses.  One of those quotations is found in the Shakespeare play, Romeo and Juliet.  That quotation is long and in Shakespearean language that is difficult to understand.  Therefore, it has been modified to “a rose by any other name would smell as sweet.”  This modified version has been interpreted to mean that the names of things do not affect what they really are. Supreme Court Vigil to Be Held in D.C. on March 7, 2026

Individuals who oppose the U.S. Supreme Court decision, Smith v. Doe, will conduct a vigil near that court on Saturday, March 7.  The vigil will begin at 10 a.m. and last for about one hour.  The vigil will be recorded but there will be no livestream of the event. “The Supreme Court made a significant mistake when they ruled that the requirement to register is not punishment,” stated ACSOL Executive Director Janice Bellucci.  “We need to remind the Court that they need to correct this mistake by overruling that decision.”…
