It has delivered votes, funding, fear mongering, vigilantism, division, hate mongering, emotional abuse to children and families of registrants, more broken homes than you might imagine, societal disenfranchisement, and a host of other subterfuge and advantages for political opportunists including a nearly death blow to constitutional protections.
Sadly as to the actual intention, it has only delivered the illusion of safety.

Well, the nature of the problem continues to be mis-stated. Here is a good example: you have a mentally deranged person attacking another person with violence. (And after the fact, politicians who try to harvest votes by decrying “sex”.) Violence is the problem, violence perpetrated by a guy who was mentally askew. When we restate the problem this way, then we can solve it: there are well known protocols for screening the population for mentally ill people. polotcians are no more than telavagelist after your money but tell you it is to save your soul, Jesus paid that price for you, making all these harsher laws is not the answer, the answer is to tell your kids don’t talk to strangers and don’t go with them and yell weirdo over and over again because in nature we are supposed to talk to one another an such, and instead of prison or jail what about help so if they are a ped. they have help not to do it again, but by not letting them get a job… Read more »
