NY: Mom Believes She Must Helicopter if Lowest-Level Sex Offenders Come Off Registry After 20 Years

FreeRange Kids: Here in my state, something wildly fair is about to happen: People who have been on the Sex Offender Registry for 20 years, who GOT ON the list for a “Level 1” non-violent sex crime like going to a prostitute, “public lewdness,” or peeing in public, are finally going to be allowed to get off it. Full Opinion Piece

The news media really needs to get their facts straight before they go out interviewing people that so devoid of the facts that they can only be called willingly stupid; as are most reporters. I marvel that nobody has called the ignorance of news reporters to them and urged them to look at the truth/facts.

People that think everything they are told is fact have fools knowledge. I think they are too lazy to check and see if what they are being told is in fact correct and true.

    • Eric Knight

I have. The savants at WROC are not returning my emails or calls. I also called the Rochester Police Department to inquire about the statistics that the police use to justify keeping them on the registry. They had no answer and brushed me off.

I’ll keep trying over the weekend. This is simply idiotic.

In this instance what you are doing is asking them to do the right thing and go against the grain/tares. Rather than do what they should have done long ago, which is to go by facts instead of lies, they, and many other people across this sad nation willingly choose the lie.

Headlines, ratings and revenue have always trumped truth in this arena. With the saturation power of the media and the way they work, we can only fall back to the age old adage:
“Nobody ever went broke underestimating the taste of the American public.”…

      • Q

        “Headlines, ratings and revenue”

That pretty much covers all bases. It’s obvious that media outlets will not address truth unless one, two, or all three of these are met and satisfied. Pretty sad.

“Mom Believes She Must Helicopter” Well, yes! Helicoptering is and should be a major duty of parents.

it’s the squeaky wheel that gets the Oil. keep up the good work Eric Knight, Give them hell, or bring them hell.

    • Timmr

We should help him with the squeaking. Ever hear 1000 wheels squeak? You can’t ignore it.

  4. David

Oh, by all means, keep everyone on the Registry FOREVER and be sure NOT to list their offense(s). Then, any truly dangerous individuals can hide among the many and there will be no way to identify them! Good thinking!
    (Yes, I am being sarcastic!)

I’m sure Chief Phelan would also agree that we ought to have a violent police offenders registry. After all, I don’t see how it would harm them in any way, they would be free to come and go like any citizen of the United States. We would need to keep them on it for more than 20 years, because then we can monitor them and know where they are. It would be a good law.
