Back in 1997, the Supreme Court ruled that the practice known as civil commitment was legal. This meant that 20 states—which had passed laws permitting the ongoing incarceration of sex offenders—could continue to keep the men confined even after they completed their prison terms. Full Article

Wow. If you haven’t read the article click on the link already!
Author does a nice job exposing all of the players. Poor leadership has it’s drawbacks. IMHO ” swamp” is an accurate description of the SVP regime. Profiteering runs amuck in the surveillance saints realms as well, meaning private contractors find niches of task specific software specifically developed to overcome normal electronic firewalls meant to protect users machines and networks and sell or lease to gov agents. Like I’ve said many times the sex offender is a convenient scapegoat for unconstitutional establishment behavior, whereby the exception becomes the norm. An effective way to maintain authority is it not?
Wow, that’s a very long article. But it’s definitely a must read. Unfortunately we need our politician’s and general public to also read this. It looks like he did a thorough investigation, however most people were quoted with fake names which makes much of his report not verifiable and deniable for administrators.
She (Barbara Koeppel) couldn’t get people to go on the record, such is the level of fear amongst those who work in or around sex offender civil commitment. This is a pretty difficult area to research. Mike St. Martin provided her many of the sources, including me. Mostly, it’s a conspiracy of silence out there. No one (virtually) cares about sex offenders and no one wants to be seen to care about sex offenders.
That is an excellent, very well-researched article exposing a hideous and shameful blight on justice that most Americans probably know next to nothing about. It needs to be featured on 60 Minutes. It’s a huge story of lies and fraud and anti-American injustice that is costing tax payers millions of dollars per year of unjustified expense to line the pockets of the criminal practitioners and supporters of a predatory psychiatric-industrial complex that preys on the most hidden subset of America’s most hated, as though they were a cash crop to be exploited for profit.
Very well written and researched. It’s a shame that something so grossly expensive and unconstitional will continue on without a challenge just because society doesnt mind the expense as long as the people they loath continue to suffer.
Ironic to me that this is in the headlines here at the same time as Gundy. Amazing what happens even on a small scale of a hospital/prison when the same people make the laws, enforce the laws, and decide guilt as well as profit from all of the above. The definition of tyranny…yet…nothing to stop it and nobody cares to.
Can you believe that the Hospital Director was a truck driver with a G.E.D.? I’m all for the uncredentialed but nowhere else would that be remotely acceptable. An argument could even be made that some truck drivers would be far superior to the Master’s degreed Mengeles running most of these programs. But, in this case, he’s not. Great piece you did David.
Much like the registered people living under a bridge in Florida, neither issue has been dealt with even after many years of being brought to the attention of the public and officials.

They’re all quite old at this point but, given that very little has changed at Coalinga, they are still surprisingly relevant.
David, I’m at work so I have only seen that LPS act one so far and it is very eye opening!
I can’t believe all of this happens and isnt succesfully challenged by anyone yet. I would think at least one detainee has a family member with enough money to fight, but perhaps not.
Oh man, this is just mind blowing government corruption! How is this not splashed across the front page of the LA Times or 60 Minutes? Instead the headlines are Trump’s late night Twitter tantrums. Jesus.
My one bright spot today, which should have been attending my daughter’s culmination, was that we voters shot down Measure EE, LAUSD’s latest attempt to fund their bloated pensions with our hard earned cash.
Deprive the government of anything and everything you can whenever and wherever you can.
D’s or Rs? Neither party nor their press affiliates would dare.
