ME: Old Town will restrict where sex offenders can live

[bangordailynews.com – 12/17/19]

OLD TOWN, Maine — Registered sex offenders who have been convicted of felony-level sex crimes will be restricted from living within 750 feet of areas that children frequent, according to a new ordinance the city council unanimously approved during a special meeting on Monday, Dec. 16.

The ordinance prohibits offenders from living within 750 feet of schools, playgrounds, parks or daycares, as well as other places in which children are the primary users. A total of 13 areas were listed on the proposed ordinance as restricted zones, including the Old Town Park, the recreation center and the YMCA.

The ordinance makes Old Town one of the few communities in the Penobscot region — along with Bangor — to impose restrictions on where registered sex offenders can reside in town.

By way of state law, municipalities can adopt restrictions on where registered sex offenders can live in areas that children frequent. The maximum restricted distance municipalities can enforce is 750 feet, according to the statute.

Registered offenders already living in town who are in violation of the new ordinance won’t be forced to move. If they decide to move after the ordinance is enacted, the restrictions will apply, Deputy Police Chief Lee Miller said in an earlier comment.

How in the (blank) i want to use the F-word can this keep happening? Don’t those dumb fools read the constitution and the bill of rights? This must be for getting easy votes of the simple minded women! Now you can feel safe lady. Really!! With over 1 million sex offenders out there. You nit wits come up with 750 feet of bull $##t what blows my mind is that a sex offender will now be homeless and guess what you dumb (blank) I want to use F-word with ing fools won’t know where this monster is! All you think and care about is my child is safe with this law. Only thing i can think of right now is the movie dumb and dumber. Look we put up a invisible wall so vote for me! But we will tell you what you want too hear. Vote for me this dumb F-word again with ing added fool to protect your children. Anyway law suit will be started to stop this s##t i hope

More moronic laws!! A registrant can hang out at a friend or relative’s house next to a school all day everyday (he just can’t sleep there overnight because that would make it his “residence.”) Or he can work at the convenience store in the strip mall opposite a elementary/middle/high school (‘just can’t sleep there because it would be his “residence.”). Laundromat next to a daycare center ….. Grocery store opposite a playground…. etc, etc.

The problems happen not when they decide to move….but LIFE MAKES US MOVE, JOB, SICKNESS, FAMILY, FINANCES AND SO ON, SOooo what happens when these rules bind, hinder, cost and harm RCs and family for various reasons such as plans dont work out for moving ..well how the He@# can you not sustain hardships and penalties and excessive health jepardising problems Situations brought on by Rights violations etc…
