Following a three-day civil trial, a unanimous jury on Wednesday, April 21, awarded a $22 million judgment against Tracy Todd ____, a former Gainesville resident who is currently serving a 70-year sentence for coercion and enticement of a minor, and sexual exploitation of a minor.
HUGE award and HUGE sentence! Don’t assume courts will give a balanced sentence or awards in this anti-registrant hysteria.
The judgement though, is a moot point. Case in point; the civil judgement against OJ Simpson. Because pensions and “other” sources of income are exempt.
Good luck collecting the judgement.
This was an incredible waste of court resources.
My thoughts exactly. Expect a boatload of similar suits to follow.
I have to agree with that. I suppose the state could garnish his 35 cents/hour prison wage. The article didn’t stress that he was a registered person. So obviously he was not. Otherwise it would have been in the headline. Even so, polichickens in the state will probably use this to increase registry punishment.
Veritas.
(I was incarcerated in Florida. You get no pay for prison work in that State.)
I hope the lawyer will not get anything.
Yea, no way to collect, except civil asset forfeiture if any property remains.
Scavenger attorney exploiting the minor as much as the defendant did. But of course the way the attorney did it was o.k. Because he had the minor’s ,” Best interests” in mind.
Let’s see. You make like $7-9 a day in prison. Assuming you actually work every day for 8 hours..(yeah right) weekends off. That’s a little over 2k a year. 22mil divided by 2k.. let’s see.. you can expect to receive your payment in about 10,000-11000 years.. unless the person dies first.. than your just screwed with fees from an attorney who took advantage of your situation and exploited you as well..
Exactly,
Empty justice and at that price who wouldn’t attempt at it.
I like your new phrase, “empty justice under the law.”
Veritas.
Details, and it could be this is a kind of case that begs for tougher laws and restrictions.

I’m as skeptical of a conviction as anyone, but it might be a good idea to not blame the jury, who are also voters for lawmakers. 22m appears to be more statement than $. Which raises a good question. Who is the enemy? Some might say the courts, or LEO, or lawmakers. To me it is the vigilantes and Gaslighters that sabotage the facts and profit off of moral panic.
