IN: Community raises concerns on operator of new business run by a registrant

Source: 10/13/21

LOOGOOTEE – The fact that a convicted sex offender has opened a tattoo shop near a preschool brought out an overflow crowd of more than 30 to Tuesday’s Loogootee City Council meeting.

Makenzie Wagoner, 19, made an impassioned plea for city officials and the public at large to take action to protect young children. She does not want the business closed, but rather forced to relocate some place away from children.

Indiana law prohibits sex offenders of minors from living within 1,000 feet of any school property, public parks and certain program centers. However, individual counties may impose other restrictions around movement, employment and alcohol consumption.

Wagoner pointed out that Indiana, unlike Illinois and a few other states, does not restrict a business owned by a convicted sex offender from being located near a school. She would like to see Indiana’s law changed.

Floyd did not comment during the meeting, but his department issued a press release. It stated: “It has come to our attention that there are concerns about a registered sex offender opening a business in Loogootee. We are aware of this happening and found no legal authority to prohibit it. We are aware of his registry status and there is no law prohibiting the operation of this business by this individual. We, as police officers, are obligated to operate within the bounds of the law as they are written.”

Welcome to the United States of Karens!

Are these parents so inattentive they worry their toddlers might wander off campus and right into this parlor where they could be tattooed and diddled?

Reality no longer matters. It’s not about whether or not there is an actual danger to anyone, it’s just about whether or not people “feel” safe based on their mistaken notions of what constitutes danger.

Oh my God! A man is trying to turn his life around by becoming a productive member of society and starting a business that will bring more revenue to the city! We can’t allow this to happen. We need to drive him out of town and write letters to the legislature to prevent him from operating a business!

I never knew minors were into getting tattoos at 9, but we can’t be to careful.

In the middle of doing a tattoo this guy might stop, run outside and drag the first child he sees, into his shop in broad daylight In front of all his customers or he might want till everyone in the community is sleeping then creep out his tattoo shop, brake into the daycare facility while all the children are at home sleeping.
This has has nothing to do with public safety these people are useing local sex offenders for clout, to become public figures in the community.
Makenzie Wagner is allready makeing a name for herself off the low hanging fruit that every YouTube podcaster, news stations, law enforcement agencies, Politicians, district attorneys use to gain fame and she’s only 19.
Wait tell next year when SORNA is applied to every state in America, the first Wich Hunt was State, this next one is gonna be a federal.

Good luck

Isn’t using the registry against the law? How does this 19 know he’ll reoffend? Maybe she needs to focus getting her facts straight before attending a meeting. 19 and already a Karen!!
