Wisconsin lawmakers didn’t violate the U.S. Constitution when they mandated that anyone deemed to be a sexually violent person wear a GPS monitoring device following his or her release from civil commitment, a federal appeals court has held.
The 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals last week upheld a state statute requiring such persons to wear a monitoring device for the rest of their lives. Full Article
Not punishment how can this person ever go swimming sit in the Jacuzzi or God for bid go camping when there’s no plug to charge his ankle bracelet, please judges just don’t have a clue how that affects a person . For the rest of his life he will never be able to go swim in the ocean or many many other things . Not punishment my ass let’s see these judges try one on for year see how they like it see if They can deal with that or not
I still feel a phantom GPS unit vibrating on my leg from time to time, which causes me immediate cold sweats and panic. It interrupts my ability to focus on what i’m working on and it has in fact made it very difficult for me to work.
I still have physical indentation in my left leg bone and muscle from the GPS unit cutting into my leg, with a faint but visible scarring from the many times my leg was cut open and got infected. I was on the bracelet 4 and 1/2 years. My parole was supposed to be only 3 years but i ended up with 5 without my due process of going back to court.
The hell i went through while wearing it, was unbearable. Had i been a suicidal man, i would not be here today. I wonder just how many people forced to wear GPS end their own lives or turn to drugs or alcohol to mentally cope with the stress. I eventually began drinking very hard after being fitted with the bracelet.
I wore the monitor for 3 years. I had no idea prior to Parole, that I would required to wear a Scarlet Letter on my ankle. It’s funny I wore a dress to work today without boots, but heels, HEELS! I honestly thought to myself, what a gift it is to dress how I please, go where I wish and swim if I so feel inclined. Gratitude always gets me back on course.

My heart hurts for the Citizens of Wisconsin. It is shameful to see the laws of other states carelessly passing such as this one. How is this NOT a violation of the Constitution? I plan to read the language of the law to see how they rationalized this. Unbelievable.
