Professor and Sociologist Emily Horowitz will deliver a thought provoking presentation during the ACSOL conference on Friday, September 17, at 11 a.m. (Pacific). Her presentation will focus upon “The Failure of Legal Responses to Sexual Violence” and will include a new perspective on how and why false claims about sex offenses have become so pervasive.
“Professor Horowitz understands the daily challenges faced by registrants and their loved ones,” stated ACSOL Executive Director Janice Bellucci. “Her scholarly research includes sex offenses and other crimes against children as well as the hysteria that often surrounds such cases.”
Professor Horowitz is a full-time faculty member at St. Francis College in New York City. She is also author of the book, “Protecting Our Kids? How Sex Offender Laws Are Failing Us.” She has authored several articles, including “I was a child abuser” published in Psychology of Popular Media Culture and “Timeline of a Panic: A Brief History of Our Ongoing Sex Offense War” in the Southwestern Law Review.
Professor Horowitz earned a total of three degrees from Yale University as well as a bachelor of arts from Bard College. Professor Horowitz is also a member of the ACSOL board of directors.

I’ve been on the registry since I was 18 years old and I can’t believe I made it this far without any 290pc violations after all the shots they’ve taken at me.
I was so young when I was placed on the registery that I had no choice but to couch surf for the first 6 years on IML but after FTR became a felony in 2006 I’ve literally been living my life like I’m on the run always watching my back always looking over my shoulder.
After 21 years of banishment I’ve learned to trusted no one, I never tell anybody were I’m going or where I’ve been and I never stay anywhere longer than 5 working days, i hope next year on my birthday I can petition to go free its been a long road.

Wow! This is great that she’ll be speaking at the conference!! No doubt she’ll mention how all these myriad sex offender laws do not prevent sexual offending!!
I work in the field of substance use disorder treatment and prevention. And there DO exist, very strong & effective SUD prevention programs. So, with all the public hysteria about sexual offenders & offenses, why are there NO sexual offense prevention programs????? 🤷🏻♂️ Why???
