ONTARIO, Calif. – Ontario police began to notice a puzzling pattern when they saw eight convicted sexual predators all registered under the same address in the area.
While that doens’t necessarily mean that all eight of the convicted residents live there at the same time, police say they had to follow up on some calls. Police also say they couldn’t find a business license for the home off East La Avenida Drive.
Residents are accusing the controversial home of operating like a “halfway house,” drawing protests from upset neighbors. On Thursday, a loud contingent of neighbors marched to the house, where no one came to the door.
I thought harassing people on the registry was against the law?
This appears to be yet another example of NIMBYism just in a different location. It is likely that the individuals living in this home are living there legally. It is even possible that they were placed in that home by parole. The ultimate question is if they don’t live in this home, where can they live?
I love the save our children signs. I have a better idea. Be a proper parent and you won’t have to rely on the government to “save” your children.
“…eight convicted sexual predators…”. Who even knows what that means? The government is allowed to slap that label on people indiscriminately. Its use has contributed dramatically to registry hysteria – people have no idea what types of crimes award you that label and registry status.
I cannot believe it’s constitutional or even legal to label someone a predator without proof, and list them as such on a public website. It’s not the same as listing a “person convicted of a sex offense” which is known public information.
The “Go Away!” sign had me laughing. It’s something I’d expect from the citizens of Springfield. But honestly, when the government is telling the public, “these people are dangerous, especially to children,” why should we expect any other response from the public? I feel for the people trapped in that house, but we need to save this video as Exhibit A when we ask SCOTUS, “Is this the America you want to see? Angry mobs fueled by government propaganda?”
Notice, the assumption that all people on the registry are automatically predators. That’s the blatant lie pushed by the media types, everyone is a predator. Remember that word, it will never be stressed with enough emphasis, nor will anyone ever think otherwise. This is poor journalism and is nothing more than gaslighting. Why isn’t it called out for what it is? A lie? Why?
I see that they called them all “sexual predators.” Well, I doubt they’re sexual predators maybe just people forced to register there is a difference. The people who wrote the article don’t know the difference. just another fear mongering for the uninformed public.
Perhaps the neighbors would be more comfortable with violent drug felons instead?
Why is OPD trying to act like they haven’t been registering different people at that address for years now, Instead of trying to find the homes business license, why don’t they just call the parole office and get the homeowners information from them.
It’s hard to get mad at these residents when you got the American government pushing fear, mongering lies and propaganda about “sexual predators” who prey on children living in their neighborhoods.
Also The home owners attorney said that he considers sex offenders to be mental health patients, I guess in the sense he’s right because being on the registry does cause sever mental health issues.
A person was holding a sign that said “Go away” obviously, the government and local law-enforcement isn’t informing these citizens about the true nature of the registry, that they don’t allow registrants to, go away
Hopefully, the airport noise will drown them out
The irony of the situation is clearly lost on the “good citizens” of Ontario.
I work in Ontario. It is a shithole full of a*holes, illegals and scumbags.
Every week we have to chase some tweeker zombie away from our complex.
The registry supporters always claim there’s no cure, however every time there is a place to help someone on the registry they scream ” not in my area.” I’d rather have someone in a stable situation than to be thrown into the woods with nothing to lose.
While these fools are protesting PFRs who are unlikely to reoffend, the folks ACTUALLY LIKELY to reoffend are causing quite the ruckus in San Fran! A new “supportive housing” unit in a nice neighborhood, Mission Bay—that I guarantee excludes most* PFRs and is 99% people with drug-related criminal histories—is causing an uptick in crime: “Incidents residents have complained about include people openly doing drugs, a man who broke his window and left glass on the sidewalk, and a man who masturbated outside the HomeRise building. The Southern District’s report says there were reports of 121 fights in the past 14 months — 20 of which involved either a gun or a knife.” But at least they kept the guys who have 20 year old sex crimes convictions out, right? (* I’m not exactly sure what their rules are, but only a single PFR shows up at this location on California’s SOR website.)
I’ll add that I am not opposed to this sort of housing at all—but living in a major city and having many extended family members with serious drug problems, I’m pretty sure that beating addiction—and the antisocial behaviors that accompany it—is a MUCH BIGGER problem than sex offenses. I don’t see how a country that is as cruel as it is to PFRs can ever actually figure out how to compassionately deal with addicts, and sometimes I wonder if our focus on sex is a way of diverting attention from our complete inability to deal with addiction and the violence, abuse, and destruction associated with it.
