A new state law (AB 218) requires that by July 1, 2014, the State of California, as well as every city, county and special district in the state, have a “ban the box” policy in place so that questions about conviction history do not appear on the government’s initial job application. Resource Guide

This is a wonderful article. Truly. I recall when I was younger walking in for a hair cut. I was maybe 11-12. The owner was kind of an angry man. The owner had just hired a great guy who as cutting hair and not causing any issues. He fired him because he had just been released from prison and learned to cut hair while inside? At the time, I didn’t think much about it! ALthough, lets be real. I’m sure the owner had done a lot of things that could have landed him in jail. Looking back, the recently released man had learned a trade, had a job and was doing everything correct! The problem with California and many in society is that they don’t realize that going to jail or prison isn’t just a procedure or ect. Your being rehabilitated! Its unfortunate that so many continue to hold things against people for so long! I made my mistake 18 years ago, had the charge reduced to a misdemeanor and eventually expunged. I feel very happy and it allowed me to feel much better about myself! ALthough, if it hadn’t been for family, I wouldn’t have been so fortunate. Personally, this makes me want to go apply for the DMV or another governmental agency. God BLess you guys. Stay strong. Thank you Janice.
It doesn’t matter; employer’s have been Google-ing the names of employees now. Someone I know, who is a RSO, had just got let go from both of his part time jobs do that.
Discrimination is still amidst.
