BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) – Wasco and Taft are among a group of California cities being sued by a civil rights group that advocates on behalf of sex offenders. In 2006, state voters approved Jessica’s Law, which bars sex offenders from living within 2,000 feet of a school or park.
Shortly after, numerous cities adopted much more restrictive local laws that prohibit sex offenders from being present in any “children’s facility,” such as a public library, school bus stop, or “any location that facilitates on their property classes or group activities for children.”
“We believe it is a misguided and unconstitutional effort to do that,” said Santa Maria attorney Janice Bellucci, president of California Reform Sex Offender Laws. Full Article

I’m so SICK of these psychos who get out on those forums with their lynch mob mentality. They obviously didn’t read the entire article. This is their thought pattern: 1) See headline containing words “Sex Offender” 2) Rush to comment section 3) Assume everyone on the list has hurt someone including a child when in fact the article says the EXACT OPPOSITE 4) Type a redneck, white trash statement about killing sex offenders.

Saw the news show last night. Janice was great, and the reporter was very sympathetic—-the attitude of the reporter was essentially: these people have paid the price, now lets lighten up on these rules they have been subjected to, and let them contribute to society. After the news segment, a couple of troglodytes made nasty comments via social media, which is to be expected—-there are lots of troglodytes around, esp on social media. But it seems to me the breeze is blowing in the right direction and I am optimistic for a positive outcome.

It’s great this is being aired on TV. I really didn’t like the way the news clip starts out, where the pencil neck with the red tie sets the tone by saying “a group that (claims) these ordinances are unconstitutional.” I think there would have been a greater impact if Mr Pencil Neck had the facts straight. So; I would venture a guess that the viewers still don’t know that it’s not CA-RSOL “that (claims) these ordinances are unconstitutional,” but the State Supreme Court that “ruled” (not claimed) these ordinances are unconstitutional, and therefore illegal. So; the public still doesn’t have straight facts.
Thank you Janice and Frank for everything you are doing for us. I am beginning to see a small light at the end of the tunnel.
It just got greenlit on Fark.com, which means we’ve reached a tipping point here in California. Especially when you read the comments.. they are mostly good. Including the comments on the article.
Way to go! You guys are kicking some serious behind out there. Even the cities are worried.. they are all worried.
Lesson to be learned here is that the perceived monsters are not and the real damage being done is from people ignoring real dangers altogether. If people want to protect children, then looking for the red dots on the map is hardly a way to protect a child. People overlook acquaintances, people in position of trust or power, people who are close to the family. Nearly all people on the registry are 1 time offenders. In my case, i took a plea deal, 2 counts, because by law you have to have 2 or more counts to NOT go to prison.. 1 count = prison 2 counts or more = not being forced to go to prison if counseling is available. That’s why i have 2 counts.
