CA: L.A. County Sued Over Ban on Sex Offenders as Poll Workers [by ACSOL]

[ 5/7/18]

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Two registered sex offenders are suing Los Angeles County for the right to become poll workers.

City News Service says the suit filed Monday argues that the county’s policy banning offenders violates state law and the Constitution.

The suit was filed by two offenders who live in the county and by the Alliance for Constitutional Sex Offense Laws, a nonprofit group.

California’s sex offender registration website lists more than 13,000 people in L.A. County, including those convicted of nonviolent offenses.

🤗 Go ACSOL!!👍 (I’m comforted to know that white-collar criminals, meth-cookers, felony DUI drivers, and those convicted of [yes, even] voter fraud are still permitted to be poll workers. Oh, and employees of the Russian government are also welcome to volunteer! [sarcasm])

This is the way to success: hit them with a law suit every time. Eventually the tables will turn.

Thank you Janice!

Personally, I think it is unjust that registrants are not allowed on school grounds on Election Day (and why is Election Day not a National Holiday, so that people can vote on a day off, BTW?). There should be an exception to the ban on school property, on Election Day, if a registrant’s polling place is on school grounds (and the entry is made solely for the purposes of voting).

If a registrant’s polling place happens to be on a school ground (which is for many, including myself), then the only method to vote is through mail-in ballot. I think this disenfranchises many of our votes. We’ve long paid our price for the crime we’ve committed. Why are registrants singled out?

Thank you, Janice!

What’s the reasoning for the ban? Voting automatically excludes minors. And its being done in a public place so you can’t even claim you’re trying to trick someone into a dark room.

It’s funny how most polling places are done at either schools or public libraries where most RSO’s are not allowed to go. This prevents us from excusing our constitutional right to vote making the governments attempt to control us (dare I say it), unconstitutional.

Of course you could do what I did to avoid the issue all together. I’m a permanent mail-in voter.

If Janice wins this, I’m going to apply for a job at my poling place. I could use any money I can get.

Justice or the two parties D&R securing just us?

Would love your thoughts, please comment.x
