AR: Arkansas woman must register as sex offender after trying to frame husband for child porn, rape

[wreg.com – 7/2/19]

BENTONVILLE, Ark. — An Arkansas woman was given six years probation for trying to frame her husband by downloading child pornography on his cellphone and telling authorities he raped a 13-year-old girl.

Cherie Renee Bolton, 34, of Siloam Springs, pleaded guilty last week in Benton County Circuit Court to distributing, possessing or viewing child pornography and filing a false police report.

Bolton must register as a sex offender and pay more than $2,000 in fines and court fees.

Judge Brad Karren also ordered that Bolton must serve the full six-year sentence.

Bolton was arrested in January 2018 following an investigation by Siloam Springs police after she made the initial allegations about her husband.

Bolton first told police that her husband was sexually assaulting the girl and had attacked Bolton when she caught the pair, according to a probable cause affidavit.

Bolton presented police with three images of child pornography and showed them a possible bruise on her ribs that investigators were unable to positively identify. Bolton said she waited to make a report because she feared retaliation from her husband.

But investigators later discovered that Bolton’s husband had kicked her out of their home days before she called police.

Investigators then extracted the photos from the phone and found Bolton downloaded the images.

” Oh what a tangled web we weave in at first we meant to deceive ”

She got what was coming to her and I pray she gets help and seeks God.

What a terrifying story. I am amazed that the police were able to unravel it. So much for the #beleivewomen movement. So this shows the registry is punishment because this really wasn’t about sex or really even CP, it was just about a diabolical plan to set someone up. I think she should have gotten serious prison time for a potentially horrendous act, but I wouldn’t even wish the registry on her for this, that doesn’t make sense.

Possession & Dissemination Of CP and no jail only probation for 6 years. Children’s lives were actually destroyed here. Destroyed! Wtf

I don’t wish the Registry on my worst enemy.
You can bet the Husbands life will never be the same just for being implemented.
Fun fact, they can both spend the rest of their lives looking over they’re shoulders 😀 happy Independence Day y’all

Agree with Eric and ReadyToFight. I don’t think one can oppose the registry’s existence and yet celebrate someone’s inclusion on it, regardless of circumstance. While that woman should be screwed to the wall, registration in her case makes no sense anyway. Nothing in the story indicates she is the type of threat the registry SUPPOSEDLY protects against.

Reminds me a bit of the Smollett case – there’s just not enough racism to go round so they have to manufacture it. Likewise for sex offenses, eh? Glad the cops caught on early in both cases.

Not the first time in American history a ” shield law” has been used as a sword. Ask me how I know. This guy was fortunate, some spouses are far more crafty in utilizing a child to gain revenge and revenue from the other parent. Child support can get you locked up if neglected. It is hard for me to imagine a scenario in which REGISTRATION would help prevent the kind of attack she made.
What man would risk a serious relationship, or any ftm, with her knowing she may attack you via framing?
She will be list ed as a child porn user \downloader! That may attract some men! None the less she’s another human indentured.

Happy 4th.

My offense was possession of CP and I have to agree here that while what she did was criminal, it was not a “Sex Crime” and should be handled differently. It’s akin to the small child that has a knife in his lunch to peel his orange and the school has “no choice” but to expel him due to “zero tolerance” rules. It’s too bad that we are unable to trust our leaders to make responsible decisions and therefore make laws (like sentencing rules) that bind their hands.

There is no doubt in this case that both the DA and the judge view registration of sex offenders as a PUNISHMENT ! They have shown their hand here and everyone who has to register is correct that it is a punishment and is nothing what so ever like renewing your “Price Club ” membership as one Supreme Court Justice said .
I hate what this lady has done but she HAS exposed for us the continuing punishment of being an RSO, I am hoping that her lawyers appeal this part of the sentence at least to keep it in the news so the general public can see what is going on here and can also agree that it is a punishment .
