FL: Florida can’t bar felons from registering to vote over fees and fines, court rules

[cbsnews.com – 2/19/20]

Florida cannot bar felons who served their time from registering to vote simply because they have failed to pay all fines and fees stemming from their cases, a federal appeals court ruled Wednesday.

A three-judge panel of the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a Tallahassee federal judge’s preliminary injunction that the implementation of Amendment 4 – approved overwhelmingly by voters in 2018 to allow most felons who served their time to regain the right to vote – amounted to an unfair poll tax that would disenfranchise many of them.

A spokeswoman for Republican Governor Ron DeSantis said the state will immediately ask the entire 11th Circuit to reconsider the ruling. In addition, a full trial on the issue is set to begin this spring.

My god are they afraid to give the people a voice, no matter how small. What are you afraid someone with an outstanding fine will vote for? For a party that likes to pretend how much they love the constitution, they sure try to make it as hard as possible for people to actually exercise their constitutional rights.

“All animals are equal but some are more equal than others.”

Some lawsuits are just fabulous….this really matters if the excluded people in Florida can be organized and GO OUT AND VOTE…the reason they try to disenfranchise us is because they are….actually…afraid that we will in fact come together and have political power…through our numbers.

Tatoo this to your forehead…we matter, we are people….the vast, vast majority of us are good people.

We need to organize, we must take care of ourselves…courts will help, champions and good champions like Janice and staff are utterly invaluable….but somewhere we need to step up and begin to seize political power…already our numbers are such that should be able to swing close elections…

We need to start thinking strategically…and bring our A game, proudly, unafraid.

Good luck and God bless every one of us.

Best Wishes, James I

Florida government/ Republicans trying to prevent people from voting? That’s nothing new!

And that my friends is how Florida turned permanently blue lol.

When a voter registration purge occurs how is it accomplished?
If a felon serving parole actually registers to vote and actually votes, how is it discounted?
By name + date of birth + social security number matching a conviction record?
However these processes occur, it’s NOT by human hands alone.
