MD: New Law Bans Montgomery County Landlords From Denying Housing To People Convicted Of Minor Crimes

[ – 4/20/21]

Legislation touted as “ban the box” for rental housing passed the Montgomery County Council on Tuesday, with sponsors saying the bill will make it easier for individuals experiencing homelessness to find a place to live.

But the bill allows landlords to consider a tenant’s sex offender registry status in addition to any sex offense arrests or convictions.

“Under the act, a landlord can’t deny housing to an individual simply because they were arrested for a matter that didn’t lead to a conviction….But the bill allows landlords to consider a tenant’s sex offender registry status in addition to any sex offense arrests or convictions.”

Apparently any sex offense arrest, even if adjudicated as not guilty, is grounds for continued homelessness. Guilty until proven guilty, or even not guilty.

Or guilty until proven innocent, but even then guilty.

Can anyone say Discrimination?

Nobody should be denied housing because of a person’s past. Most registrants would be grateful for a place to call home, take care of their place, and pay rent on time. I’m tired of all the banishment throughout the country. It’s overwhelming, mind boggling, and just evil. Everyone is free to re-enter society except registrants. Registrants aren’t currently committing sex crimes; yet the people who continue to harass registrants are the opposers.

Montgomery County, MD is the very rich part of the state where Bethesda and other well to do cities are, which neighbor WDC, as well as being the home to many who work in WDC (elected or not) live. This fits right into their maintaining home values there and pushing people over to Prince Georges county.

why are they always picking on me

Would love your thoughts, please comment.x
