In Minnesota lawmakers are considering a bill which would expand restrictions on where people listed as sex offenders can live, and allow local communities to add even more restrictions.
According to this report, the restrictions are so severe that in some of Minnesota’s largest communities there would be essentially no place for these people to live at all. Full Opinion Piece
There is a comment underneath this article (among other horrible ones, such as, let the crocs eat ’em, the author is lenient towards sex offenders, sex offenders should be locked up for life – *sigh*) citing some 1993 study about high (50 percent?) sex offender recidivism. This so-called study is contradicted by all current and valid studies, which show *very low* recidivism rates for SOs.
Did this commenter just cite some imaginary article or is there a real study that people are quoting?
If this is a real study, it has got to be flawed or be using a sample of very severe offenders.
We need to get correct info out there, and asap. I can’t believe states are still coming up with residency laws!
Joe has the gist of it, the second guy clearly demonstrates idiocy.

“I’d like a map of kids convicted of B&E and auto theft also. And while we’re at it, show everyone that’s had a drug offense or speeding ticket. It’s for the children!
And for myself, a map of all women arrested for prostitution…”

“JOE: get real. Protecting children from rape and murder is far more important than you knowing who has stolen a car in your neighborhood.”
