Ricky Wassenaar, already serving 16 life sentences, says his only regret is “not killing more”
Ricky Wassenaar killed three men at an Arizona State Prison near Tucson on April 4. Two were serving life sentences for sexual conduct with a minor. The third had raped and killed a 15-year-old girl.
Wassenaar’s only regret was that he didn’t kill more.
“Child molesters: I wanted to kill them all. That’s all I can say,” he told the Arizona Mirror in a recent phone call.
But he did say more.
“The taxpayers no longer have to pay for them,” he continued. “I’m paying my debt to society.”
The Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation and Re-entry is investigating what happened that day. No charges have been filed yet, and a spokesperson for the Pima County Attorney’s Office said that Corrections has not yet referred its investigation to their office. The Corrections Department has not commented on the matter, other than to condemn the violence and note that it was quickly curtailed.
Wassenaar, who is known in prison as “Rooster,” is already serving 16 life sentences for his part in a 2004 jail-break attempt that ended in a 15-day hostage stand-off at the Lewis Prison in Buckeye. He has spent 38 of his 62 years in Arizona prisons, with just a four-month stint on the outside. And the Pima County Attorney, Laura Conover, has written newspaper op-eds declaring her aversion to the death penalty.
Wassenaar also claims he killed a fourth prisoner last November because he didn’t want to share a cell. He says he strangled the man with his bare hands, but Corrections didn’t believe him and the autopsy conducted by the Pima County Office of the Medical Examiner could not definitively determine that the man — also a sex offender — was murdered.
Give it the death penalty. It has forfeited its right to be called human.
Sounds like this guy should be given a death sentence since he’s a burden to taxpayers.
Nothing worse then a self-righteous inmate who thinks himself above others. It’s that little bit of false hope that he holds out that he’s not scum of the earth. He justifies his worse impulses under the guise of righteousness but in reality, he is not fit for society.
If you read the article that highlights that 15-day hostage standoff, you’ll find that he’s a rapist too when he assaulted the female guard hostage. Under that thin veil of righteousness is a hypocrite sexual predator as well.
Sounds like a real piece of sh*t. I’m against the death penalty, but not against …

and throwing him into solidarity the rest of his life. Some of those prison officials should also be charged, because I know they were in on it by purposely putting inmates convicted of sex crimes against children in the same cell as this psychopath.
Sounds premeditated to me therefore that’s an automatic capital offense where the death penalty should be on the table if Arizona has such a punishment.
Its beyond me why they even allow murderers in areas or cells with people who haven’t murdered is beyond me, it makes absolutely zero sense.
16 life sentences for this skinhead and bonehead POS, yet our government considers registrants dangerous. Doubtful most registrants don’t have 16 life sentences even though being on the registry feels like a life and death sentence.
Nothing more than a guy projecting and over compensating for his own inadequacies through violence. Wouldn’t be surprised if he was a child abuse victim himself.
Lost in all this is the passive complicity of the Arizona State Prison, ASP. Targeting SO’s is the norm at all prisons. ASP allowing this to happen with a prior admittance that Wessenaar killed his SO cell mate with his bare hands is passive complicity.
Until all prisons are sued massively, there will always be a “normal” occurrence of SO’s being killed in prison.
Our ” government” says, the registry is’t punishment however being targeted or killed just because of a sex offense sounds like punishment to me.
This all goes back to people forced register being sent back to prison for FTR after serving their original sentence. They know it’s a chance you might not make it out alive because of your past convictions.
If your on the registry make sure you register don’t give them nothing they can use to send you back to prison because it could be your last time in the free world again.
Not only that there’s crazy people in the community that will try and kill you az well.
Rooster eh?
Not much I can write now will pass the moderator.
So, use your imagination, imagine what I am daydreaming (not advocating) should happen to all his genetic relatives.
Did Rooster participate in cock fighting as a young chick? He sure struts around thinking he’s the king rooster and should have been considered a threat to society. Now Rooster should be placed in a special coop for the criminally insane birds. Rooster, Cock a doodle do you ole bird
