An anonymous donor has offered to match up to $10,000 in donations in order to improve the Tiered Registry Law. Improvements would include, but not be limited to, lowering the tier assignments of those convicted of PC 311.11 (felony possession of child pornography), PC 288.8(c) (lewd or lascivious conduct with 14 or 15 year old), PC 288.2 (felony providing harmful material to a minor), PC 288.3 (unlawful communications with a minor) and PC 288.4 (sting operations). Another improvement would be creation of an “offramp” for those assigned to the highest tier, Tier 3, which currently requires lifetime registration.
Under the terms of the challenge grant, the donor will match $1 for every $1 in donations from others. The donor has suggested he would increase his donation if donations from others exceed $10,000.
“We thank the donor of this challenge for both his generosity as well as his wisdom that significant resources will be required in order to persuade the state legislature to improve the Tiered Registry Law,” stated ACSOL Executive Director Janice Bellucci. “Donations can easily be made online using the Donate button on every page of the ACSOL website. Or donations can be sent to ACSOL at 2110 K Street, Sacramento, CA 95816.
The CA Sex Offender Management Board (CASOMB) has recommended to the state legislature several, but not all, of the changes advocated by ACSOL. A copy of Tiered Registry Law improvements recommended by CASOMB are listed and described in a report issued by the Board earlier this year:
Proposed Amendments to Tiered Registry Law - Jan 2024
LOL, I donated $50.00 today at 12 pm before this was announced. Hope it counts and is doubled, but either way i am glad to give back to ACSOL. Keep up the good work. We will get there.
