AI-powered facial recognition will be deployed at major Indian railway stations, including Mumbai CST and New Delhi, to identify known sex offenders. The initiative aims to enhance safety, particularly for women, by integrating AI tools with national offender databases under the Safe City project.
The Indian government will soon begin using artificial intelligence-based facial recognition systems at major railway stations, including Mumbai CST, New Delhi, and Ahmedabad, to track individuals listed in the National Database on Sexual Offenders (NDSO). The initiative is part of a broader plan to enhance passenger safety, particularly for women, under the Centre’s Safe City project.
The AI system will be linked with CCTV cameras installed at railway stations, reports TOI. It is designed to scan faces in real-time and compare them with entries in the NDSO, which currently contains over two million records of convicted sex offenders. The goal is to flag known individuals attempting to enter or travel via railways, allowing authorities to take appropriate action.

Just a matter of time. It won’t be long until this is here in the US for sure.
There is a big difference between a passive and active notification. Here is a real world example. Putting names on a website is one thing, but alerting nearby folks is another. I think that legally this would lean towards punishment as it is digitally branding people in real-time. A real life scarlet letter.b
lol they have 2 MILLION in thier database !! What happens when the whole country is on the database… is the train renames the SO train ? or just shut down the rail system ??
Let’s see, families killing daughters over refusal to marry, husbands killing entire families because of shame of job loss, locals gang raping tourists for fun. But hey! let’s spend billions on facial recognition. I’m sorry, but India has serious issues politically, socially and morally.
At times I wish I had the face of a prominent lawmaker I could use from time to time in public. ” Can’t touch me I’m Senator Chuck Grassley of IO Way been in Congress too long.”
“Take appropriate action”???
So they identify someone on the platform…then what? Swoop in and remove them from the station? Or are they just planning on keeping an eye on them?
Do they have rules which prohibit PFR from riding trains?
What does this really mean?
Ok, so once they are identified, then what?
Yeah, I know the article is from what’s happening in India, but SCOTUS has ruled “no reasonable expectation of privacy” while in a public sphere or domain, yet ICE continues to circumvent that by wearing masks.
You know I have to ask. Does this Indian system tap into the Dru Sjodin database?
Back in 2004 a friend of mine got into an altercation at a bar in Orange County with some drunk dude, the guy got hurt really bad.
About 2 months later a Orange County detective shows up at my house in Riverside California asking me questions about that night at the bar and who my friend was I told I didn’t really know the guy or his real name because I had just met him that night hanging out at the bar he didn’t believe me then started asking me questions about my past and being on the registry and asked me who do I know in Orange County because you go into that bar a lot. I told him no one and I drive from riverside to that bar every night, He smiled and gave me his card and said thank you do you have any questions for me I said yeah how did you find me, he said facial recognition. So they found me using facial recognition but not the guy who actually commented the crime just tells me that every person forced to register is put on facial recognition software so they can be apprehended by law enforcement faster and also be tracked by law enforcement anywhere in America
Wait, I thought they all looked the same! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 ( sarcasm) Modi will make sure only his opposition voters gets fingered .
