Colorado is overtreating many low-risk sex offenders in the mistaken belief that they cannot be cured, an independent consultant has found. As a result, the state’s Sex Offender Management Board is wasting significant amounts of public money on supervision in the community, according to a report from Central Coast Clinical and Forensic Psychology Services.
The report, released earlier this month, also concluded that Colorado’s system for classifying some offenders as sexually violent predators is hopelessly flawed and in urgent need of replacement. That means Colorado could be classifying the wrong people as sexually violent predators. The findings were met with approval from advocates of reform for sex-offender treatment but with skepticism from a victims’ group. Full Article

Commentary: State by state, the truth is coming out
Advocates for victims groups are typically targeting revenge over and above the domain their specific cases and these instruments allow them to exact that revenge against a general population of individuals. That is what lawmakers have given them in exchange for their support.
I am not saying that victims do not deserve relief, but they already have victims’ protections built into law. This is just additional window dressing for political gains, federal funding and being able to isolate a group and exact secondary and arbitrary punishment.
I must agree with your upper article. The one that is saying victims are getting their revenge which is not a good thing because it has gone way to far their revenge has gotten way out of control. It is like so’s are the only ones that have ever done anything to a person or persons, which they aren’t the only ones. Look at the drug addicts, alcoholics, there is no cure for those people, but both area’s have caused family upsets and grief, but yet nobody cares about that. I feel that the large article above the victims revenge article is right on the button, when it says how the prisons are spending to much time with the publics money for supervising the so’s because they think that the so’s are not cureable when they really are curable. It is a true fact that there are fewer so’s that repeat the same offense and go back. There are more people that are not so’s that are repeat offenders then there are so’s that re offend.
I really think that a lot of laws we have now are very unjust, unneccessary and over grown. As I said before I do agree with the very beginning article and the other comment above mine about the revenge.
