More than 50 registrants, family members and supporters participated in this year’s Lobby Day on March 24. Members of that group lobbied during 39 scheduled meetings as well as an additional 30 unscheduled meetings with legislators and legislative staff who work on public safety issues.
“Thanks to every person who participated in Lobby Day this year,” stated ACSOL Executive Director Janice Bellucci. “We truly appreciate the sacrifices you made to arrive in Sacramento and then join ACSOL in delivering important messages to the legislature.”
The primary focus of this year’s Lobby Day was asking legislators to vote “no” on Assembly Bill 1568. If that bill becomes law, it could block thousands of registrants who are otherwise eligible from petitioning for removal from the registry.
A secondary focus of this year’s Lobby Day was a request to author a bill that would improve the Tiered Registry Law. As the law is currently written, less than half of all registrants are or will be eligible to petition for removal from the registry.
The group of registrants, family members and supporters included at least a dozen people who had never lobbied before. They were trained the morning of Lobby Day and then assigned to teams led by an experienced lobbyist.
“Every person who lobbied for the first time stated they felt empowered during Lobby Day,” stated Bellucci. “And most of those people stated they will return next year.”
Point papers distributed on both topics can be found below this article. ACSOL will conduct its next Lobby Day in March 2026

It was wonderful to meet so many new faces fighting the good fight yesterday! And the feedback we received from the legislators was more supportive than I remember from past years. Here’s hoping we get some traction on the CASOMB recommendations in the next session.
Thank you ta all who participated in this year’s Lobby Day! Your efforts are greatly appreciated. And, of course, thank you to Janice and team for all the preparations that went into making this year’s event a success! Well done!
Congratulations, Janice, and EVERYONE for getting out there and showing up, standing up, and speaking up on the behalf of the rest of us. May God bless these legislators with wisdom, and may He soften their hearts so that they can know the true damage that this registry is doing to families everywhere.
I scheduled myself to go for the first time. Unfortunately, I had to end up working. It is so incredibly rough for an RSO to try to make a living, living in the shadows, being harassed by community members. It became so untenable for me I had to get therapy, I was consequently diagnosed with PTSD. Thank you Janice and lobby members. I’m hoping I can make it next year.
I signed up to attend for the first time. I’ll be honest, I wasn’t looking forward to meeting with legislators and being subjected to judgement and humiliation. But, I decided to attend because I know that if I don’t participate in the fight, I have no right to complain about the unfair laws we are subjected to. However, going and participating was extremely empowering and life-changing. Not only were legislators open to hearing us out, many were in agreement that changes are needed. The event was extremely well organized and focused.
I highly recommend attending and participating. We do have a voice together and ACSOL is definitely making a huge difference.
Janice would it be possible to share the morning’s training for Lobby Day? Not specifics with names of legislators or anything like that, but I’m assuming training included how to craft the message using words carefully. I think we could all benefit from that in our advocacy on a daily basis and here in Chicago I am reaching out to more people in power and could use any tools and tips. Thank you.
I missed my 1st in a decade, covid not counting, but Cali was shut down anyways.
