TX: Rise in Overturned Sexual Abuse Convictions from DNA Testing

Being accused of a crime you haven’t committed can be devastating. Unfortunately, several wrongly convicted individuals are just now seeing the light at the end of the tunnel after years behind bars. Falsified claims are a serious threat and this issue is quickly becoming recognized by mainstream media. In particular, false allegations involving child sexual abuse or child abuse can wreak havoc to family relations and cause lingering stress. Recently thousands of untested DNA rape and sexual abuse kits were sent to a third party crime lab for testing after decades collecting dust in Harris County evidence rooms. Fortunately, a few cases have already been turned over after DNA evidence proved their innocence. Full Article

Well; It appears Texas is in over their head. Their registry, like so many others has grown so large they can’t handle it and have to farm out their work to private lab’s. It’s deplorable it’s taken them so long to get around to this. Now; I don’t know if it’s just me, but it seems logical that false accusations should be a felony with a stiff set of penalties. Simple logic says the fact that there are no prosecutions ( I’ve never heard of any) for people who’s false accusations send innocent people to prison for long periods is probably a large part of the reason so many innocent people are rotting in prisons across the country, not just in Texas. I believe the public needs to be up in arms that so many fdalse accusations ever result in exoneration’s. It’s getting embarrassing to be an American. This is something no one could ever be proud of.
